I got my inspiration for this post from Jay Z’s “Star Is Born”

He raps about that everyday there is a new rap star that comes up and grabs the spot light, and that everyone should clap for him.

So I wanted to take this to bloggers, since bloggers can be stars to..Right? haha

Two Sides To A Shining Star

One, how you should “Clap” for new bloggers getting started

Two, how do you become the next blogging star.blogging star, make money blogging, make money with a blog, money dummy, johnpaulaguiar.com

Ok, let’s ride (rap reference) hope I didn’t lose you :)

Bloggers Helping Bloggers

I have been blogging for about a year and spent

about 2 mnths before that just reading and learning first. On my way I asked questions and received a lot of great support from existing bloggers that were willing to help a newbie blogger.

Without that support I would have been fine, but having someone answer a question in 2 min that might have taken you an hour of reading is huge.

Now as an AmeteurishlyGrowingBlogger (oh the grammar police are going to get me tor that one..lol)

I am at a place where I can and have helped up and coming bloggers that have asked for help.  Why do I help? Hmmm…

First, I like helping people and most important -  I’m not an A-hole lol

Second, it’s a compliment to me that someone feels I know enough to come to for help.

Last, I’m paying it back for all the help I received and still receive from bloggers above me.

Understand there are BIG benefits to helping new bloggers so there is no reason you shouldn’t “Clap” for them.

How Do You Get You’re Blogging Star Shining

Ok, now that we talked about the importance of blogger to blogger support, let’s talk about the MOST important part to our blogging star story.

How do we become blogging stars?  Well I don’t know…I know I know, you thought I had all the answers..Well I DON’T haha I’m still learning just like you.

But what I do know is that what I have learned and have done with my blog is slowly getting my blogging star brighter each day… get your sunglasses ready!

Four Horsemen Of  Blogging – Branding – Social Media

These are my top 4 Horseman that are experts in each part that is needed to be the next Blogging Star.

To me, to be the next Blogging Star you need to bring it on all levels, Blogging, Business, Branding and Social Media!

As you all ready know, blogging is JUST blogging anymore. To be a successful blogger you need to bring it on all four fronts.  So learn from them and bring it all together on your blog.

Chris Brogan – Chris is the hub of the wheel. He is all about connecting and building a community.

Michael Martine – Michael looks at blog as a business, and to build your list for real success.

Dan Schawbel – Dan is a branding machine, he believes that a strong personal brand is important.

Gary Vaynerchuk – Gary is the craziest most passionate dude I have met online, he is social media and believes SM is best way to get you and your blog out to the world.

If you want to be the next Blogging Star, then you NEED to bring a little bit of all four to your blog.

I was going to end with another rap reference :) but since I have one rap and one country “Horsemen”  I think I am good haha

What you think? What do you think it takes to be a Blogging Star?

“Super Star!” I like all four of those blogs and will strive to implement their techniques in my own way to my blog.

I also think that :”Super Star!” blogger is one that reaches out an helps other achieve small milestones.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

TY for the comment. Yea those four are really all you need to take your blog to the next level..Super Star Status..lol

Yes Super Star blogger gets their with help.. and should give back and be helpful.

  • http://virginbloggernotes.com/ virginbloggernotes

I think getting out there and meeting people and offering a hand-up when they need it is the best way to go. It feels good, it's fun, and in most cases, it's the right thing to do.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Jean TY for the comment. Yes I agree 100%.. being open and helpful is the right way to go.

  • http://cashwithatrueconscience.com/rbblog Ryan

I like your take John Paul. I follow Brogan closely and will add the others to my list.

Successful blogging is taking bits and pieces of knowledge from the masters and putting your own spin on it to make it yours. This saves loads of time in the “Trial and Error” department. You're going to be experimenting enough as it is, why not do what successful people are doing with your own signature twist added?

Super stars became superstars because they help. Giving freely opens the way to consistent receiving Chris B talks about writing year's worth of valuable blog posts and giving them away for FREE before he made it big. Now he commands many thousands of dollars and up per day for his time. He earned it by giving advice, sharing his knowledge, and most of all sharing the most valuable commodity – time – with fellow bloggers. Give for the sake of giving and you'll get a lot.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Ryan.. glad you liked the post. Yea to be successful you have to give and give without expecting a return.

There is always learning as you go and learning from your mistakes, but why not lessen those mistakes by going to the people that are where you want to be and learn.

  • Purplebutterfly

Blogging Star? Well, I don't know what it takes either it depends on the level or subject matter. I have had several different blogs but now am finding my niche as they say. And I already know I am star, being i published two books and on my third now its just a matter of getting them out there. So thanks for the help and encouragement you give others this to me shows abundance.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Thanks Purple fir the comment. Yea Blogging Success means different thing to each blogger. I like my success after 11 month of blogging, but I want it to grow more :)

Your welcome,, glad the post motivated you.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve313 Steve Welton

Honest feedback is so important as well when you're first getting started. There are so many resources and people to learn from online. “All we have to do is ask?” I'd have to say yes. Of course if someone just does not have the time I'm sure they will point you in the right direction. Ultimately it's up to YOU to decide how much work you're going to put in. Don't be fooled either. While it may be more accessible to reach success online there is still work and skill involved. I have learned from failure and I still do. I appreciate all your insight. I found your blog through Mr. Schawbel

Hey Steve.. TY for the comment. Glad to see you were referred by Dan.. He is Awesome!

I agree that no matter how help and support you get, you still need to work hard.

Also there will be times that people may not be able to help, example–>
I went to many top bloggers/marketers to promote my Twitter Dummy Guide.. and some agreed and some said no. and gave me good reason for the no, and some said no, but offered me a guest post opp.

So in the end even with a no, my blog still benefited just by asking.

  • http://www.finearttips.com lori mcnee

Hi John Paul, you practice what you preach for sure. Thanks for personally helping my blog to shine…

Also, thanks for this 'enlightening' post. I believe in 'paying it back' and that is the reason why I started blogging about art tips in the first place!

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Lori.. your welcome, Im glad to help :) But your blog was Shinning before I got there..

Exactly.. blogging with art tips is a great way to give back. Really any support small or big that you can give to upcoming bloggers is worth doing. Karma is a beautiful thing, So why not use it right haha

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Figured you might like that “Horsemen” since your down in horse country a lil,,lol

But yea those guys are awesome, and cover the four corners to support a good blog /business foundation.

  • icebluebanana

Ok, I am probably in the minority here, but I have only heard of two of these guys. I guess I have some homework now. Another great post John Paul.

Great point about reaching out to others. I have gotten more great information that way than I think any one other thing. Twitter is another one. Following you, David, ProBlogger, there's always great stuff coming from great folks and it helps tremendously!

    Hey John,

That is great that you are willing to extend yourself and help out newbie's with the start of their blog. You seem to know the law of sowing and reaping.

You sowed onto others and you'll reap the benefits later. By putting people first you will always win.

Thanks for sharing your 4 horsemen!

    Chat with you later…

And like everyone before has said, cheers John Paul for sharing so much.

  • webpagelottery

But at the same time there is a blogging star die off too. Blogging has become very competitive. If you don't keep working hard, you will be eliminated from the game very soon.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Like anything else… it takes hard work to succeed.

  • webtechwise

In the beginning every bit of personal help from someone who has more experience than you is valuable. I like your attitude here and I agree that helping others is good for all sides evolved.
By the way, I saw a short lecture by Vaynerchuk the other day in youtube. No doubt this guy is hilarious and a social marketing genius.

  • http://www.websitebegin.com Joe Boyle

It only takes ONE thing to become a blogging star – DEDICATION.

If you're not dedicated, you won't get anywhere. It's like trying to buy a car without any credit cards or money – it won't work. If you don't BELIEVE in yourself, you won't have ANY success.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

TY for the comment Joe. Yes Dedication will help, so will hard work, and commitment and persistence.

Personality, an ability to communicate that online and your desire to help others around you to succeed (and an ability to motivate others when their appetite for the graft is growing thin – I read (over on ZK's great blog) about John Chow doing this and its to be thoroughly admired!) are what it takes to become a blogging super star, in my own very humble opinion!

    Regards

Yet you weren’t very helpful to me and for some reason unfollowed me on Twitter. Yes, out of the 56,000+ people you follow, I must be the most uninteresting one. Or it’s your way of saying that my blog is (pardon my French) crappy.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Actually probably because you was spamming me your crap. The only reason I unfollow people.

  • http://www.dragonblogger.com Justin Germino

Funny, I did a post a few weeks ago about becoming a Blogging Rock Star that touched on very similar topics. I follow a few other key bloggers who are “stars” in the niche and categories I am focused on.
