Social Media Funny – Learn To Use It Right

My man MJ @MJGottlieb decided to be funny and put together this picture below for me :)

social-media-funny

I don’t see the resemblance, but maybe you can haha

I’ll give you a minute to take that in and enjoy a good laugh on me :)

Ok, you done laughing?

Good let’s roll on…

Now, after I explained to my “buddy” MJ that he was just jealous of my “sexiness” I decided to share that picture on Facebook, Twitter and Google+

Why?  It’s personal, it’s funny and social media loves funny!

The Results

I first put it up on Facebook since that is where social media funny works best.

After about 1 hour the image had:

19 Likes and 44 Comments

Link below takes you to the Facebook stream, where you can read the funny comments and if you like, add in your own :)

https://www.facebook.com/photo

After that I shared it to my Facebook Page @MoneyDummyBlog

The picture got another 8 likes and 7 comments. Not to bad considering it already did so well on my wall.
social-media-john-paul

I then added it to Twitter @JohnAguiar and it got about 10 re-tweets and Google+ +JohnPaulAguiar and got 3 +1′s.

After all the sharing was done, the image ended up with 29 Likes and 68 Comments!

Why Was This A WIN-WIN?

For my followers, it was something funny and personal about me and gave them a chance to share some jokes with me directly.

For me, I had a great time and literally “LOL” for over an hour and I got to share myself and show that…

I’m a normal guy.
I have a personality.
I can laugh at myself.
I’m approachable.
I have a sense of humor.
I was born with my sexiness :)

Now do you think having my followers see and learn all those things about me will help my blog and business and help me grow my influence online?

Hell Yes It Will!

Maybe not today or tomorrow, but it will help my journey in the long run.

How NOT To Do Funny

Are you one of those bloggers that share kitten, puppy and any other silly, cutesy pictures across social media sites every day?

If so, please stop.

Why?  Sharing those types of pictures will be of ABSOLUTELY no benefit to your blog and business!

To get the best results from social media you should share quality, TARGETED stuff and mix in a little bit of bit of funny and personal.

If you are sharing more funny and cute, you will be known as the person that shares funny and cute shit.

Congrats, you just became the old lady that lives with 100 cats! haha

Not a good look!

You are NOT being “branded” as the person that can help people grow their blog or business or social media influence.

Remember the Win-Win above?

If you share funny correctly it will help you just as much as sharing a helpful post or a great tip.

That doesn’t mean to NEVER share cute, silly pictures on social media. But try to keep those to a minimum.

Remember why you are on social media sites in the first place and take the same strategies you use to sharing helpful content to how you share pictures too.

You Want To Be Me

Did you think,  “man that JP and his beard is so sexy, I must grow one too?” (well, hopefully for men only) lol

Did you think, “man that JP’s beard is so cool, I must have one for my kid”.

Did you think, “man that JP has one hell of a warm looking beard?”

Well it is your lucky day!

Just in time for Halloween and Fall, I bring to you this piece of awesomeness.

Now that is PERFECT!

Thanks to Laine @fromABroad for sharing this with me.
and she said it best…

I will say this is insane man. LOL

How can someone put his weird photo on social network just to see how many people laugh on him. This is literary insane I’d say!

  • http://inspiretothrive.com/ Lisa Buben

I love the Halloween one best and how you explained we could be the old lady with 100 cats. Had not thought of it that way before. Thanks for sharing these tips….

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

The pic wasn’t shared to have people make fun, it was shared because it was funny.

    Big difference :)

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Glad you enjoyed the post Lisa :)

and def stay away from being the old lady haha

  • http://twitter.com/healyourhart Maria

Love it John,  made me laugh. And you may be single but you live to far away :D

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

haha is that an offer Maria? :)

But I’m glad you enjoyed that and hopefully it helped clear things up.

Somehow, I missed your baby pic on both Facebook and Twitter. (I really need to crawl out from under this project that’s burying me!) – It’s hysterical and I love the Etsy hat that Laine shared. Thanks for making me smile and making a very valid point. We need to constantly be aware of the image we’re projecting. It’s good to mix personal with professional but the line shouldn’t be so blurred that we become known as the “Cat Lady”. :)

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Glad you found the pic now Sherryl, and had a good laugh on me :)

The etsy pic was awesome.. they have one for adults to lol

We should bring the same thought to pic sharing as we do content.. only makes sense.

and you def don’t want to be the “cat lady” down the street haha

  • Heather Stone

Yes, funny post, John Paul. I can’t tell you how much the cute kitty puppy thing turns me off, but I love to see quirky pics of personality bloggers. It’s all about making yourself “real” to your readers and followers. Especially if you write on serious topics a lot, it’s a good way to inject spirit into your style. The problem for me is always how “real” do I get?…and how edgy? There’s sort of a line that I’m not sure I want to cross. How do you be yourself, be edgy, and yet hold on to a general audience?

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Thank U Heather.. glad you enjoyed the post and got the “funny” vibe I was working with.

Now how much of “you” you share is really up to you. If hat your sharing feels right, then do it, it feels you crossed a line then stop doing it.

We all have a different “line” so what can be fine to me, can be to much for you and vice versa.

But making mistakes makes you real to,, so don’t stress if you make a mistake here n there. WE ALL DO.

I am single too! Good article…and I don’t like all of the cute cat pics either! You made a valid point in all honesty. Thanks (and I enjoyed the laugh).

  • http://twitter.com/leinsoy07 Yosniel Romero

Dude that’s kid? It looks just like you.

  • http://cashwithatrueconscience.com/rbblog Ryan Biddulph

    Hey JP,

Funny rocks on social, and so does that picture! ;)

Comedy lightens folks up. Posting a funny pic – especially of yourself – helps people see you are real.

Nope, you’re not just a business machine, churning out content all day. Few can relate to this.

Nope, you’re not just a cash gifting coach or MLM mentor, helping folks prosper online.

You are a real, living, breathing person, with a sense of humor.

Someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

Someone who is fun to be around.

Bingo! Connection. Because people crave this energy, you will attract people with greater ease if you show a fun part of your personality.

I am growing my beard out now JP ;)

    Thanks!

    RB

I really had a chuckle at this John, I agree totally, you need to show your readers that you are a “real” person, not just some robot typing words.  Love the ETsy hat.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Thank U Carol. I’m glad you got a laugh and got some value.

    Single and minglin huh :)

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

lol yea man.. funny as picture right?

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

You nailed it Ryan. Sharing funny oics of yourself here and there will benefit you and even more way then we shared.

Who doesn’t want to connect to a real person over a machine?

haha grow the beard then take a pic of you on the beach man.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Exactly.. real beats robot any day any time any place.

    Well online that is haha

The hat is awesome,, might have to get one for my nephew. lol

  • http://twitter.com/CandraEvans Candra

Being real and funny really does work.  Not everyone wants to see sales pitches and ads all of the time.  I think most people will actually respond as you have proven and then a longer lasting relationships are formed.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

I agree Candra.. you can’t ever go wrong with real and mix in some funny and you are well on your way to building that trust and relationship.

  • Kimberly Warren

I wish the baby was also holding down the top of it’s head!!!

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

that would of been a perfect match :)

  • http://findingourwaynow.com/ Susan Cooper

LOL… This such a good lesson. I very much enjoyed what you had to say. I am a bit to serious at times and will take this to heart.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

TY Susan… glad you enjoyed the post and learned something :)

Have a little fun with it… it’s social media.. it supposed to be fun and stress free .. so have fun.

  • Barbara Torris

John I loved this…especially the crocheted beard.  Even grandmothers could wear this.  I have always thought that being “real” was the secret.  I wrote a post about Grandma and the Blue Poop that made me laugh.  But the one that got the most traffic was Grandma and the Weird Diet.  I guess the word “diet” is a big key word.  Anyway it was fun.  I wrote both of those posts after reading your article.  Thank you.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Glad you can laugh at my pain Alex lol

But yea a lil bit of funny will work in any niche. and TY for the shares my friend :)
