Simple 7 Step Plan To Promote A Post
We all know how important quality content is, and I been known to write some here and there ![]()
But no matter how great your content is, no one will see it unless you promote it.
I’m not going to share mind blowing secrets here kids, but what I will share is EXACTLY what I have done to get my 12 month yr old blog to a PR4 and Alexa 117,000 and Ranking on first page for some big keywords.
Not bad for a 12 month blog that for 3 mnths I wrote NO posts and have a total of only 78 posts. ![]()
That is about 1-2 posts a week, I know pathetic lol, but I been busy with my online businesses and family, but I promise to get on a tighter schedule.
So if what I’m sharing has worked for me with 1-2 post a week think what it would have done if I was on a consistent 3-5 posts a week.
*Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links to products that will earn me a commission. I only recommend products/services that I have used and that I like and trust.
Let’s get into it my 7 Steps…
______________________________
Submit To Twitter
This should be a no brainer for you by now. Twitter if used correctly WILL send people back to your blog to read your post! Period!
Now more then ever, Twitter should be first place to send your new post, Read Why.
Submit To 20 Social Sites
I use Hootsuite and Ping.fm to send out my post to over 20 other social sites.
Go here is to be as efficient as you can be, using Ping.fm let’s you do that without having to sign into each and every account.
Facebook tip, is to post your link directly on facebook at least once before using Ping that way will get more SEO juice from it as a direct link back to your blog.
Bookmark To 30 Sites
Bookmarking works and with Onlywire I send my new post out to 30 sites with the exception of a few Capcha codes it is automatic.
Added to this I use firefox add on Shareholic to submit to another 15 sites that Onlywire doesn’t have.
So in about 15min of time I have my post out to about 45 sites.
Lately I been testing Bookmark Demon to go crazy with bookmarking, to over 200 possible sites, so far I am very happy with it.
Both options work great Onlywire and Shareholic or BookMarking Demon, but if you have a little bit of money to spend then I Highly recommend BookMarking Demon software it is awesome.
Submit To Blog Carnivals
Blog carnivals are a great way to a. get quality back links and b. get targeted traffic.
It is free to submit to carnivals and the more targeted the post to carnival is the higher your chance your post will be excepted.
I did this manually for a few weeks and bitched and moaned the whole way thru lol but in the end the effort is worth the hard work.
I have been using a blog carnival submitting software called Xingla Pro that pretty much automates the process to 1 or 30 carnivals at once.
Have used it for 3 weeks and makes life A LOT easier..lol especially if you have a lot of old posts that you would like to submit.
Post To Bloggersbase
I been posting on BloggerBase for few months see my BloggersBase Profile and each my post have been read (each my post get read 200-400 times.
Not bad for a site that lets you post on for free as many times as you like and let you read readers you may never have before.
Post To BlogEngage
BlogEngage is a new site I was invited to join a few weeks back. Brian at BlogEngage has a nice system setup to let bloggers reach other bloggers, connect and share in the promotion of each others blogs.
I been very happy with the luv my posts have gotten and the comments, traffic and ReTweets I been getting all from BlogEngage.
You have to be invited to be part of the community, which is Brian’s way of keeping things at a high quality and a benefit to all members.
If you email Brian tell him John Paul sent you and I’m sure he will send you an invite, yea I got celebrity status like that ![]()
Comment On Related Blogs
I have talked about how I use blog commenting before so I won’t go to far into it, but I comment on blog posts that fit what my most recent post was about.
Also I learned recently is if you are blog commenting for a back link, then don’t waste your time commenting on a post with over 40 – 50 comments.
Google only spiders the first 60 links on a page top to bottom, so if you comment 55 plus the links on that page beside the comment links, then you wont get credit for that back link.
Now you SHOULD comment FIRST to offer something to the conversation, and back link benefit should be a bonus not your primary reason to comment.
That’s it, simple to read and simple to do if you take the time and do it for each and every post you write.
Any tips you can share?

John Paul,
A list of very useful promotional sites; I'll be taking a further look at some of these. Thank you for sharing them.
I've not seen too many of your posts recently; have you been away?
Regards
Paul
April 15th, 2010 at 6:33 am

Drama, TY for the comment. and nice to see a BlogEngage friend
I hope the list helps.
April 15th, 2010 at 6:58 am
Wendee TY for thew comment. Yea if you follow some or all the steps I laid out, you will see a nice bump in traffic.
Takes a lil time to get in the habit of doing all this, but once you do, it's quick.
April 15th, 2010 at 7:21 am
It is such a great list of tips but I wonder how the traffic quality that you get from blogger base. Is it the real traffic?
April 15th, 2010 at 7:27 am
Bloggersbase traffic is good traffic since they read the post, they get no benefit to reading it. Not like in a traffic exchange site where people go to your site JUST to get credit to show their site.
Good thing with Bloggersbase is it gets read by bloggers that may or may not ever have found my blog.
Great site, and free to post..lol So why not.
April 15th, 2010 at 7:34 am
John Paul,
Thanks for the tips I'll take a look at those two.
Regards
Paul
April 15th, 2010 at 7:38 am
John Paul, Great tip on not commenting old blog posts with big comment strreams. Not that I did this but wasn't aware of google's spider algorithm.
I just pound the hell out of twitter. It's worked for me. Also use pingomatic, FB, and another good pinging service is Zimbio. Some of my zimbio pings earned 1st page status on google before I knew what the heck I was doing with marketing, etc; it's powerful.
April 15th, 2010 at 7:41 am
Hey Ryan… TY for the comment. Yea Twitter works if you work it right. I will check out Zimbio.. Great add

< strong>My Crazy Simple 7 Step Plan To Promote A New Post…
We all know how important quality content is, and I been known to write some here and there
But no matter how great your content is, no one will see it…
April 15th, 2010 at 8:31 am
John Paul,
This is Source Blogger. How are you?
I see that many articles encourage you to automate the article marketing process, particularly pings and the such.
We also have a unique process of pinging to numerous other RSS and Social Media resources.
How have you proven that this system is really driving traffic to your site? Were you able to detect traffic from specific referrals unique to the roster of sites from a ping sites unique directory?
Thanks in advance for your response.
Your friend,
Source Blogger
April 15th, 2010 at 8:42 am
I know it works since all the 7 steps is ALL I have done with my blog and in 10 months and only 1-2 posts a week, I have a PR 4 Alexa 117,000 score.
So that's what I look at to tell me whether w=hat I'm doing is working.
Understand my post isn't about who has the better pinging service, I use Ping.fm but there are many out there to chose, doesn't matter which you use, JUST USE ONE!
April 15th, 2010 at 8:43 am
Nice tip on promotion, John. I really wish bloggerbase is dofollow so we could have both traffic + backlinks. I kinda like the interface though.
April 15th, 2010 at 8:47 am
Yan TY for the comment man.. Means alot, since I got alot great info from your blog when I started mine
I agree that Bloggersbase would be nice to get the back links, interface is great, but I think he could do so much more with that site.
April 15th, 2010 at 9:04 am
Good jobs man! Sounds easy to do but it's hard actually. Am I right? With so many tools people will confuse which one they should use. To do this, we must do it properly.
April 15th, 2010 at 9:07 am
Fazreen TY for the comment. If you do all 7 steps here it should take you no more then 30 – 60 min. Not bad considering the results you will get. Can also do the steps at different times in the day, break it up, do 2-3 steps then 2-3 steps later. Long as you do it the same day you will be fine.
April 15th, 2010 at 10:03 am
I'm still confusing about the blog carnival John. Any help?
April 15th, 2010 at 10:07 am
Sure.. what are you confused about?
April 15th, 2010 at 11:01 am
Hey John,
I'll put these on my to-do list to try out. Moderated automation is good. Thanks!!
April 15th, 2010 at 11:07 am
Hey Sam..TY for the comment. Nice to see soem BlogEngage luv
Yes semi automation is just enough to free up your time, and get the most out of your time.
Let me know how the tips work out for you.
April 15th, 2010 at 11:27 am
TY Tia for the comment
Yea BookMark Demon is so good, you have use it at 50% power..lol

8220;Google only spiders the first 60 links on a page top to bottom”
You're partially right. But.. As far as I've noticed.. the higher PR of some certain web page, the more links will be indexed. So, it's fair to say, that if you often comment on ProBlogger, it doesn't really matter wether you were the first commenter or the 150th – your link will be indexed despite the nofollow tag. This is from my practice according to GA.
And I believe this very natural. The more important is your content on a page, the better it should be scanned and indexed.
April 15th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Pecker Google will not spider every link on a page with 150 links, you are completely wrong .
April 15th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
Yea the communities are a small part of gettign traffic and a small part of what the post was about.
Alo more to do then just postint in blogengage and bloggersbase, this alone wont help your blog all that much.
April 15th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
Comments and FaceBook are worth doing. More thought should go to each.
You generally wont get SEO from comments or FaceBook, but lots of exposure to people who will be interested in your subject matter
April 15th, 2010 at 7:15 pm
Jacob TY for the comment. You will get SEO from facebook read my post from other day on this.
Posting to facebook gets you BIG SEO juice and ranked on Google.
Yes commenting is big, I have talked about this on other posts many times, this post was for JUST promoting a post
April 15th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
You're doing great indeed, John. You've got a great community here. In fact, the # of comments on this article proves that you've done a terrific job at promoting it. Keep on keeping on, buddy.
Cheers!
April 15th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
TY Yan, I Appreciate the Encouragement..
Yea I'm very happy with the comments today, I have a lot great followers. My blog wouldn't be any where without them and their support.
Stay in touch man, I still have a lot to learn from you
April 15th, 2010 at 8:40 pm
Wow! Awesome!
I commend You for Your generosity in sharing the information and the resources You use.
Thank You John.

Daniel, TY for the comment. I'm glad you liked the post, hope it helps.
April 16th, 2010 at 8:56 am
I know, I wish there was a tool to share posts in all niche communities as well
April 16th, 2010 at 8:59 am
That would be nice 'm sure there is something out there… just need to find it.
April 16th, 2010 at 11:10 am
I use a few of these sources, but not nearly as many as you have listed. How long does it take you to submit your posts to each of these?
April 16th, 2010 at 11:14 am
Ms,Freeman TY for your comment
If you did all that lsit shows like I do using the free options like Onlywire, then you could do it all in 45min – 1 hr.
Also you can do some of it right away and some later in the day.long as you get it all done that day you will be fine.
If you want to cut all that in half. and use the paid options you would be done in 20 – 30 min.
April 16th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
I hadn't even heard of Onlywire so I am off to check out that site right now, two of the others which are paid programs I hadn't heard of either.
April 16th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Hey Justin… TY for the comment. Yea Onlywire is great, have used it a long time. But if you ahve some cash then Bookmark Demon is a silly software..lol
April 16th, 2010 at 3:48 pm
Is bookmark demon automated, or do you still have to manually do the submissions. I was hoping for something like Ping.FM plug-in for wordpress, that auto submits bookmarks without manually having to do it.
April 16th, 2010 at 3:51 pm
BMD is a software, once you put the url you want to bookmark to over 200 sites, it runs automatically.
Onlywire isn't automated fully. Ping.fm I have tied to my HootSuite account.
April 17th, 2010 at 1:45 am
Hi bro very nice post. I have also write one article on how to promote blog lately. I almost own all type of strategy to promote my blog.

April 19th, 2010 at 5:22 am
Hey John thanks so much for posting about us in this article. I think blog engage has so much to offer bloggers I would hate so see anyone miss out in it and not get involved. I'm also a big fan of twitter and use it as often as I can., It has much potential.
April 19th, 2010 at 6:06 am
Hey Brian, TY for the comment. Your welcome for the BE mention, it is a great service, and I am very happy with it so far.
Yea I luv Twitter lol So I am def Pro Twitter.
April 19th, 2010 at 7:16 pm

April 19th, 2010 at 7:24 pm
Joshua, TY for the comment. I'm glad the tips are helping and bringing in some results already, That's Awesome man.
April 20th, 2010 at 9:01 am
I have been blogging for over a year now. Almost everything I've learned I've had to scratch up by myself. I realize that there is still much more to know. I wish I had these tips when I started.
In October I started another blog called Chicken Scratchings as an adjunct to an association for self-publishing authors. I've encouraged them to begin blogging to establish or increase credibility. Please check us out and if you like what you see would you allow me to republish these tips for blogging authors?
April 20th, 2010 at 9:08 am
Hey Bill… TY for the comment. I'm glad you liked the tips.
Yea I had lot to learn in the beggining and still learning
You can re-publish the post, that's fine, just make sure to include a link back to the post here on my blog.

April 21st, 2010 at 5:27 am
Ralph, TY for the comment. I'm glad you liked the tips, any tips to promote a post better I'm happy to share.
April 22nd, 2010 at 7:03 am
While the focus of your post was driving traffic to your blog, don't neglect to promote your posts INSIDE your blog. Three ideas:
1) Post a list of previous articles with short teasers. This works good with posts that you think are good, but haven't received the traffic you feel they deserve; people may have just missed them (for an example, see A Few Good Posts on my blog). I like to pick humorous or non-typical posts that give readers a broader view of your content.
2) Write about the most popular posts on your blog for the quarter or year. Again, summarize the post and note why you think its popular. Note which posts received the most comments. Note which posts you were surprised didn't receive more traffic and ask for comments (see my Most Popular Posts).
Both of these methods provide lists of posts and tempt readers to read articles they missed. The key is to do it sparingly.
3) Remember to interlink your posts. For example, my most popular post, Teach Yourself ACL, is also linked to all my newer ACL content. Those links drive a lot of traffic to my more recent material.
April 22nd, 2010 at 7:08 am
TY for the comment,, the post was about “promoting a new post” not about interlinking posts on the blog.
If it was then your tips would be great and relevant
April 22nd, 2010 at 10:36 am
I would agree with you that twitter is a great medium to get traffic and i have found it get m immense amount of traffic. But submission to many websites at the same time is a great technique to get your search rankings up
April 22nd, 2010 at 10:42 am
Hans, TY for the comment.
Yea Twitter combined with submissions is a good start to driving traffic.
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:37 am
Thanks for the references. You mentioned 20 is a good number of social sites to post too and 30 bookmarking sites. Of these, (besides the mainstream FB, Twitter, Delicious, Reddit) which are some less notable sites you find provide the greatest value?
April 23rd, 2010 at 10:50 am
Hey Kyle.. TY for the comment.
I have about 25 social sites connected to my Ping.fm you can have more. but I think 20-30 is fine.
Bookmarking I send to about 25-35 Now I use BookMark Demon I talked about in post.. with that softwar eit is so powerful,, you can bookmark to like 200 place,, so with that you need to relax a lil,lol 30-50 is good evey once in awhile I hit 100.
But you dont wanna go to crazy and piss of Google .. better to be safe then sorry.
Hope that helps man.
April 23rd, 2010 at 11:12 am
definitely
April 25th, 2010 at 9:58 am
Hi John.
Well, you're post is great.. thanks for all these useful informations… pity for those (like me) who have a blog in Italian is * much * more difficult …
April 25th, 2010 at 10:01 am
lad, TY for the comment.
I think using these tips will work even in english. maybe you can add a simple translator plugin so that it can be english and Italian.
April 25th, 2010 at 10:47 am
Nice Idea.. I will provide.. Thank You.
April 25th, 2010 at 7:56 pm
Great post John, I had been looking for all of that (obviously not too hard)
I have a question, namely – how do you co-ordinate all of the submission programs. I already have a wordpress plugin for twitter posts. Surely you are not merely submitting post on auto with all bookmark sites. I am aware that you can pick and choose what is sent and where to, but this then leaves one with a browser-header full of book-marklets.
Am I just being dense, or lazy?
Regards chris.
April 25th, 2010 at 8:01 pm
Chris.. TY for the comment.
You have to submit each post as your write them,, tols help but you still need to work.
April 26th, 2010 at 7:10 am
Great post but a few spelling and grammar errors. It may have been written in a hurry but you were focusing on getting the content to the readers … The tips are excellent and a bit shocking to me on how much you market the posts. Perhaps I need to start doing that too…
April 26th, 2010 at 7:19 am
Farnoosh? Sorry if that's not your name
TY for the comment. Yes spelling..I think faster then I type..lol
I'm glad you liked the tips.
Once you do a few it really isn't that much work.. you just really need to do some promotion of a new post to get it read by more people.
April 26th, 2010 at 8:20 am
Yes you do think faster THAN you type
!
!
! Just teasing, keep up the good work.
Farnoosh is indeed my one and only name. I respond to few other things but I prefer this one
I am going to use your tips! But a grammar lesson may be due soon
April 26th, 2010 at 8:23 am
Ok hope they help.
April 26th, 2010 at 6:03 pm
John, I have no idea whether submitting to social bookmarking sites does really help in pagerank or search engine ranking, but I believe that it could bring you some traffic. I've been using Blogengage for quite few months and I have the traffic they send me.
I have a question, with Hootsuite and Ping.fm, I need to register in ping.fm and submit my post to ping.fm and it will send out my post to over 20 social bookmarking sites?
My blog stuck PR3 for more than a year, perhaps I'll try your help and see whether I can get PR4 in the near future.
Thanks for the tips John!
Regards,
Lee
April 26th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
Hey Lee.. Yea submitting to social site and bookmarking sites will give you more traffic more back link from authoritive site, and will raise your PR.. Google luvs sm site and bm sites.
As far as hoot and ping
You need to first join ping and fill out all the sites you want to submit to.
Once you do that you add ping account to hoot. and when you want to submit to your Ping account you just check it and when you tweet a post or message it will automatically got to your ping sites.
Lee if you do all the tips here and add commenting trust me your PR will jump at the next Google PR update.
April 26th, 2010 at 6:51 pm
That sounds pretty cool! I just about to sign up all the social sites that listed in ping.fm, so you have signed up almost all the social sites that listed in ping.fm? Or you just pick some of them?
One more question, shareholic and Onlywire are free to use right? I'm just going to check out them. I used to submit my latest blog post to Digg, Blogengage, stumbleUpon and Google bookmark only, my intention is just to get my blog post indexed as soon as possible, never think of getting higher PR or helping in search engine ranking. You change my mind now, I'm going to try them out.
Thanks John.
Regards,
Lee
April 26th, 2010 at 6:56 pm
Lee I have about 25 sites in Ping.. pik the best ones.
Onlywire and Shareholic are free I use shareholic to submit to about 10 sites that are not part of Onlywire.
April 26th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
I notice that Onlywire is not free to use, or we have to place a button in our blog in order to use the services for free. I didn't see the button in your blog, so are you using the paid one John?
I'm registering all the social bookmarking sites one by one right now.
Regards,
Lee
April 26th, 2010 at 7:35 pm
I use it Free.. the button is at bottom of my side bar says “bookmark& share” Place it out the way,, they don't care where it goes just that you have it.
April 27th, 2010 at 5:57 am
This is a very nice post. I never thought that there are sites like ping.fm to send new posts automatically to social sites! this post is so cool!
April 27th, 2010 at 6:00 am
TY for the comment. Yea there are few sites that can help do this.. Ping.fm is what I have used a long time and happy with them. Simple to setup too.
April 27th, 2010 at 12:54 pm
Hi John
I'm working like crazy for PR4.
Got to PR3 but I want 4… this could be the post that gets it for me.
“Also I learned recently is if you are blog commenting for a back link, then don’t waste your time commenting on a post with over 40 – 50 comments.”
Didn't know that, but certainly worth knowing.
April 27th, 2010 at 2:27 pm
Hey Keith..TY for the comment. I hope the post helps you get to PR 4.. felt good going there from a PR2.
Yea if your commenting for back links,,and you really should be commenting for more then just a back link.. but stay away from posts with over 50 comments.
April 27th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Thanks for the recommendations. I'm definitely going to be checking out XinglaPro and Bloggerbase. These look like good things.
Thanks.
April 27th, 2010 at 7:28 pm
Grehg.. TY for the comment. Yea Bloggersbase will get some more eyes on your post.
XinglaPro is the best.. take a min to learn it but once you so its fast.
May 10th, 2010 at 5:17 am
John Paul, I've finally got round to visiting all your recommendations. When they begin to take effect it will certainly like my life a lot easier. Thanks again for the great tips.
One other question; how do you identify which blogs are writing similar material to you?
Regards
Paul
May 10th, 2010 at 5:26 am

I find blogs thru twitter, Google Search etc.. My RSS has about 50 – 75 blogs/sites that I read to comment on and for basic info on tech, blogging, business, internet marketing, motivational, “got yours in there “

Well, finally I signed up for ping. Thanks for getting me in action in that direction. Because of ping, I signed up for tumblr and dug out my reddit password and found a couple of other new sites. I admire how many places you're submitting links to. We'll see what the impact is of these new sites on my traffic and backlinks. Thanks!

Hi John,
Just a quick question from someone who is completely new to this social bookmarking thing.
I looked into the Onlywire site, and it says in order to use it you have to put their button on your blog posts. I don't see their button on your page here. How are you using their service without the button? It's a bit confusing to me!

Jeremy.. you can either pay for Onlywire or use it free but you need to add there button. Mine is on my side bar at the bottom it says Bookmark & Share

May 29th, 2010 at 12:20 pm
Hey Lisa.. I'm glad your using the steps in that post. If you have any questions I'm here
Disqus is a comment system.. I like it alot.. but for a new blog I would go with a simple Threaded comment system.. I would have in the beginning if I knew..lol

The commenting isn't only good for the link love. It is about the potential traffic from the readers and owner of the blog you are commenting on.

Yea I agree.. I have covered commenting in other posts, so I didn't go into full explanation. But commenting is about offering something to the conversation where people see it and like it enough to visit your blog and learn more about you.

Great tips! BloggersBase is new to me; I'm intrigued. Just curious about your thoughts on duplicate content posted here and there.
And I noticed one of your posts there linked back to this site for the reader to read the rest while some of your other posts there were published in full.
Thanks!

Amy..TY for the comment, glad you liked the post
Duplicated content isn't bad.. your really putting it on places like bloggersbase, to get eyes from that site on your post, and the backlink is nice too.
I have always posted my whole post on BB but recently I havn't been happy with how much he is monetizing with ad links,, annoying.. so I am trying something new with that most recent post with posting half and having people go to my blog for the rest.
