Simple 7 Step Plan To Promote A Post

We all know how important quality content is, and I been known to write some here and there :)

But no matter how great your content is, no one will see it unless you promote it.

I’m not going to share mind blowing secrets here kids, but what I will share is EXACTLY what I have done to get my 12 month yr old blog to a PR4 and Alexa 117,000 and Ranking on first page for some big keywords.

Not bad for a 12 month blog that for 3 mnths I wrote NO posts and have a total of only 78 posts.  promote a post, get noticed, make money with a blog, make money blogging, make money online

That is about 1-2 posts a week,  I know pathetic lol,  but I been busy with my online businesses and family, but I promise to get on a tighter schedule.

So if what I’m sharing has worked for me with 1-2 post a week think what it would have done if I was on a consistent 3-5 posts a week.

*Please note that some of the links below are affiliate links to products that will earn me a commission. I only recommend products/services that I have used and that I like and trust.

Let’s get into it my 7 Steps…

Submit To Twitter

This should be a no brainer for you by now.  Twitter if used correctly WILL send people back to your blog to read your post! Period!

Now more then ever, Twitter should be first place to send your new post, Read Why.

Submit To 20 Social Sites

I use Hootsuite and Ping.fm to send out my post to over 20 other social sites.

Go here is to be as efficient as you can be, using Ping.fm let’s you do that without having to sign into each and every account.

Facebook tip, is to post your link directly on facebook at least once before using Ping that way will get more SEO juice from it as a direct link back to your blog.

Bookmark To 30 Sites

Bookmarks works and with Onlywire I send my new post out to 30 sites with the exception of a few Capcha codes it is automatic.

Added to this I use firefox add on Shareholic to submit to another 15 sites that Onlywire doesn’t have.

So in about 15min of time I have my post out to about 45 sites.

Lately I been testing Social Maximizer to go crazy with bookmarks, to over 200 possible sites, so far I am very happy with it.

Both options work great Onlywire and Shareholic or , but if you have a little bit of money to spend then I Highly recommend Social Maximizer it is awesome.

Blog Carnivals and BloggersBase are no longer available.

Blog Carnivals No Longer Work

It is free to submit to carnivals and the more targeted the post to carnival is the higher your chance your post will be excepted.I did this manually for a few weeks and bitched and moaned the whole way thru lol  but in the end the effort is worth the hard work.I have been using a blog carnival submitting software called that pretty much automates the process to 1 or 30 carnivals at once.Have used it for 3 weeks and makes life A LOT easier..lol  especially if you have a lot of old posts that you would like to submit.

Post To Bloggersbase

I been posting on BloggerBase for few months see my BloggersBase Profile and each my post have been read (each my post get read 200-400 times.

Not bad for a site that lets you post on for free as many times as you like and let you read readers you may never have before.

Post To BlogEngage

BlogEngage is a new site I was invited to join a few weeks back.  Brian at BlogEngage has a nice system setup to let bloggers reach other bloggers, connect and share in the promotion of each others blogs.

I been very happy with the luv my posts have gotten and the comments, traffic and ReTweets I been getting all from BlogEngage.

You have to be invited to be  part of the community, which is Brian’s way of keeping things at a high quality and a benefit to all members.

If you email Brian tell him John Paul sent you and I’m sure he will send you an invite,  yea I got celebrity status like that :)

Comment On Related Blogs

I have talked about how I use blog commenting before so I won’t go to far into it, but I comment on blog posts that fit what my most recent post was about.

Also I learned recently is if you are blog commenting for a back link, then don’t waste your time commenting on a post with over 40 – 50 comments.

Google only spiders the first 60 links on a page top to bottom, so if you comment 55 plus the links on that page beside the comment links, then you wont get credit for that back link.

Now you SHOULD comment FIRST to offer something to the conversation, and back link benefit should be a bonus not your primary reason to comment.

That’s it, simple to read and simple to do if you take the time and do it for each and every post you write.

Any tips you can share?

What a great article. I’ve already been able to put a few of the tips into effect on my blog. However, after spending years doing online help systems and web sites I’m just now moving into blogs and finding I have a lot to learn. Looks like I have to start to look at Twitter, which I’ve been resisting completely.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Yes you need to get on Twitter.. Will make you a better blogger, and make new connections for you.

  • http://www.earnmoney-fromhome.com/blog2 bryanwongyh

hey john, i’ve never heard or used bloggerbase before. Will sign up and check out what its all about.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Yea,, great site, to get you posts in front new eyes, and a nice backlinck.

  • http://nittygriddy.com/ Ingrid Abboud

    HI John Paul,
Some excellent tips here. Thanks for taking the time to share them. There are a few here that I’m not familiar with that I will have to check out asap. And unfortunately some others that I do know that I’m not taking advantage of. I should get crackin’ on them soon!
Thanks again for the very informative post (as usual) 😀

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Ingrid..TY for the comment. Glad the post helped and maybe show you the benniis of the few things you know about, but not using. It all ads up when put together. All things and more I still do today, that all work.

  • http://www.3hatscommunications.com/blog/ davinabrewer

John, Interesting tips.. except I’m not on 20 social sites. 😉 I do cross promote a little, with LinkedIn and Friendfeed synced to Twitter but that’s as far as I go; too much of a good thing. I do need to think of other places to submit my blog, thanks for the suggestion.

Commenting on other blogs: I do it more because I have something to add to the discussion and less for SEO or promoting my own work, though honestly that is part of it. I do of course link back to blog posts, hoping they add value to my own (and perhaps the blog owner will drop by with a comment).

BTW nice to see comments still open after a few months, commented about this earlier today. Thanks.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Davina..TY for your first comment :) Hopefully not your last. Yes when I say commenting, I mean add value to the conversation first, the traffic and backlink you get is a bonus.

Im on so many social sites, but I will say I only visit 5 daily. But sending your post to places you dont visit daily will still get a backlink and traffic.

I submit to Myspace, and get visits from there, yet I havnt visited Myspace in a year haha

Yea as of right now I leave comments open. People visit conversations late, so I give them opp to add their 2 cents.. like you did :) But I have been getting more n more spam,, so I may have to rethink the open comments things soon. Its to bad.

    John Paul:
I found this post by way of Alex Walley. :-)

I use Onlywire, Shareaholic and Ping. Was not aware that you could get SEO juice from posting on Facebook. Do you have to post the actual URL or could it be posted to your FB with use of something like NetworkedBlogs or LinksAlpha?

I also was not aware that after 60 links there is no juice (though I don’t just to get juice).

Going to look more into Bookmarking Demon as I do social bookmarking for a number of clients and this may help make the job easier.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Michelle.. TY for your first comment :) Hopefully first of many

Yea to get the juice from FB you have to manually post your url, so it is a direct link back to your blog.

Yea commenting for links should be the bonus, not the main reason for commenting. But if you can get both then thats great. and after 60 Google really doesn’t look any further. Also if you after 60, most people wont really see it so not much traffic coming back to your blog from that comment.

Bookmarking demon is awesome, and if you have clients, you can set up different campaigns and reports for each.

    Hi Ya!

Google indexes the fan pages that are open to the public, not private pages.

I’ve done some experiments and it works v well. Just setup a fan page with keywords and add some articles.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Yea, private goes without saying. Only public pages get SEO attention.

Just found your site via a link on twitter.
One thing I sell is inlinks, I know google doesn’t like them. but I’m making a good amount on them each month.

One other comment I have is please remove the popup for your mailing list, it is incredibly annoying. I know the big thing right now is growing a mailing list (which I don’t get, personally I prefer following a site through RSS feeds and a person through twitter. I get enough email) Just my 2 cents :)

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

What’s really annoying is the 16 damn ads you have on your site chief. So before you go running your mouth, you may want to look at your own blog.. Now that is just MY 2 cents :)

  • http://www.benway.net JasonB

WOW, you take feedback from a new reader real well.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Feedback? that was rude and ignorant. especially for your first comment chief.

  • http://www.salestipaday.com/ Chris Hamilton

    John Paul,

I am amazed by the wealth of information that you share with people. I greatly appreciate it and the information is fantastic.

    Keep them coming.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Chris..TY for the comment. Glad you like the post and all the info :)

  • http://thebloggingacademy.com Stephen

    Hi John Paul,

Are you still in love with Bookmarking Demon? It’s been on my watch list for ages. The only thing that puts me off is the price tag. If you are still giving it the thumbs up then I’m one step closer to purchasing it.

I’m currently using OnlyWire but get a lot of failures. SocialAdr is OK. Outsourcing is another option, but I am concerned about bad neighbourhoods. BMD and managing it myself seems to be the best way to go. What do you think?

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Stephen.. Yea I dumped OnlyWire for the waste of time, garbage tool.

BD is awesome,, I still recommend it. Only if you are planning to bookmark on a regular basis.. “which you should be” Now if your going to bookmark here n there, then just outsource it.

But if you plan to use it on a regular basis to bookmark your posts, articles and vids, then BD is what you need.

  • http://thebloggingacademy.com Stephen

    John Paul,

I’m not the only one that thinks OW is a complete waste of time, money and keystrokes then!

I think I will give BD a go. I have a few sites that could do with some SEO work to give them a bit of a boost, and plenty of plans for the future too.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Then if you have a few sites, then the cost of BD is def worth it. Let me know how you do with it :)

  • http://twitter.com/billyirish Bill

    John Paul,
Thanks for the pointers…had not been to Bloggersbase yet…very good stuff.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Bill.. TY for the comment.. yea BB is a great site.. good way to get in front of people you may not anywhere else.

Hi John, getting visible via social media is really a great free way how to attract some relevant traffic. I was not aware of couple of websites you mentioned and I will definitely go ad test them.

Until now I was submitting my content only to Twitter because I was thinking it will take me just too much time to submit on other places as well, but now I see that it do not have to be necessarily that time-consuming.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Adam.. if done right it won’t take to long,, but even if it does.. the benefit is def worth the extra effort.

    Hope the tips help you.

Hey JP. Thanks 4 the gr8 info. Big question… are u submitting the same posts to all these social sites? I know, for instance, StumbleUpon doesn’t want a post u submit to them to be duplicated on your blog or other sites… Thanx as always! – M :-)

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Of course I submit the same post. How would you be able to post to StumbleUpon? It has to be on a blog first right?

Stumble lives off of people blog posts.. so not sure they don’t want you doing that.

If you only shared a post on one site you would lose out on a lot of eyes that wont see it because they may not use that site. So you want to share it everywhere to give you the best chance to get it read.

Great ideas, but clearly you have to make a monetary investment, that I dont have a problem with, just wondering on a limited budget, or a budget for someone just starting out what would you suggest as the best investments?

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Stephanie, glad you like the post. As far as monetary.. the only think you would pay for on this list is blog carnivals,so ignore that and do the rest which is all free.

As far as the bookmarking you can use a free site like socialmarker..com or go to fiverr..com and buy a $5 bookmarking gig.. :)

The rest of the list is all about free work, get your post onto every social site your on.

Just so you know, I built my blog up the first 6 months to a very nice size all with FREE methods since I didnt have the funds.. for me Twitter and commenting was a BIG boost for my blog. So trust me, money or not, it can be done.
