25 Ideas For Blog Posts

It’s is amazing to me that we are already in 2014, feels like just yesterday that I was day dreaming of all my big plans for 2013.

I can promise you that 2014 will fly by just as fast.

So having a content marketing plan in place for the future is a very smart idea. Today I want to help you get your ideas for blog posts in place to at least get you on track with your content on your blog.

2014 will continue where 2013 ended off, content is still one of the most important things you can do to succeed online. Want your content to run up to people and say “read me now”?

Then learn how to promote your content correctly… right now! ideas for blog posts

Think of it like this… in the 50′s door-to-door sales was big, they had great products to sell in their briefcases, and to sell those products they would walk up to homes and knock on their doors.

Now, what would happen if they never knocked on any doors?  No one would see their great products and no one would buy their great products.

Your content is the “great product in the briefcase” and you promoting that content everywhere is you “knocking on those doors”.

The more you knock, the more readers you get, the more readers you get, the more shares you get, the more shares you get, the more readers you get.

That’s the kinda circle any blogger would be happy to get stuck in :)

But before all that can happen, you first need great content.

Here are my 25 Ideas For Blog Posts to get you started.

1. Share Your Book or ebook

Take a chapter from your book and condense it into a post that hits the best of that chapter has to say. This is a great way to first share your smarts from your book, and second, to get your book in front of your readers over and over again.

2. Run A Contest

Giving something away free is always a good idea and if you can combine that with a contest, you will have a 1-2 punch to new social followers, traffic to your blog and subscribers.

3. Use A Recent News Story

Take a recent even or activity in the “real” world and apply it to what you do and put together a post. This is a great way to piggyback on the buzz around that event and possibly bring you some added traffic.

example of this is when I did a post about what bloggers could learn from Pro Golfer Bubba Watson

4. Share Events You Been To

Like going to events and conferences? Why not share the tips and advice you learned while there? Why not share why you like events and why you think your readers should go to events too.

5. Share Your F*** Ups

Want to know the number one thing your readers want from you?  Honesty!  This os one of the best ideas for blog posts because people like real, people like personal, people like to feel they know you a little bit and can relate to you on some level. The best way to do this is to share the mistakes you have made and what you have learned from it.

6. Review Products or Services

A well written and honest review will be of great value to your readers and to you from the income they produce. Keep your reviews to services or products that fit your blog 100% and make sure to write from a place of experience.

7. Share Life/Business Lessons You’ve Learned

This goes with being real and honest with your readers, but to take it a step further, get a little more personal and share who you see things, what has caused you to see things the way you do, then just write an in your face post that no one can ignore.

example of this is the post I wrote after my grandmom passed away and I walked away from social media for 5 days.

8. Share Infographics

Infographics are a nice to share information and stats in a visual way. People love images and images that teach them something are even better. Again keep your infographics targeted to things your blog is about.

9. Create Lists

People love lists and they always will. It’s an easy way for people to learn something without having to do the heaving lifting that is research. Top 10 lists work well, but to stand out try odd ball numbers like, Top 18 or Top 22 or go big and do Top 100 lists.

10. Get Reader Feedback With Polls

Running polls on your blog are a great way to get feedback from your readers. You can ask what they want to learn, ask how they like to learn etc… You can then take this information to put together future posts or use it to determine the type of products or service you will offer in the future.

11. Write A Simple Case Study

Again people love to learn something new especially when they don’t have to do the research. This is why case studies kick-ass. You share what you did, detail by detail, you share why you did it and for how long then you share your results.

example of this was my simple social media ads experiment.

12. Share Your Best Comments

This is an idea I had recently from a post I did that got over 100 amazing comments. Thought about taking the best of those comments and put them into a slide share or just into a post to share the views of some of my readers. In theory, this will do very well, but I will let you know :)

13. Do A Top Posts Roundup

Doing a weekly or monthly top posts post is very smart for 2 reasons. First, it gets your older posts in front of your readers again. Second, it gives your old posts new life and internal backlinks which will make Google very happy.

14. Interview An Expert

Interviewing an expert in your field is a great way to get some “special” tips and advice for your readers that they may or may not be able to get themselves. Plus being able to interview big hitters makes you look good in the eyes of your readers since getting the experts to do interviews isn’t something just any blogger can do.

15. Write Up Helpful Tutorials

People love to learn and they love to learn from people that really know what they are talking about. If you do any of my ideas for blog posts, make sure you dot his one. If you have a skill in something, they share it in a tutorial. Make it easy to read and as detailed as you can so it is as helpful to your readers as it can be.

example of this is my guide on how to build an email list.

16. Share Your Plans for Your Future

This is a great way to bring your readers in and make them feel like they are part of your team. Sharing future plans for you blog or your business or for new products will get your readers primed for what’s coming, but it will also get you some nice reader feedback.

17. Share Your Favorite Resources

Have certain tools and service that you use to grow your blog or business? Then throw them into a post and share them with your readers. Take this a step further and use resources that you are an affiliate for so you can also make some money with this post.  Helpful to your readers and makes you some money? That’s a WIN-WIN to me :)

18. Make List of People To Follow

Have a few good people you want to share with your readers? Doing a post with a list of people you look up to is a great way to get some brownie pints with other bloggers :) Plus your readers will like that you gave them other resources they can learn from.

example of this is my top 10 follow Friday favorites I do for Twitter.

19. Do A FAQ Roundup

Have questions your readers or customers ask on a weekly or monthly basis? Take those questions and answer them on a weekly or month post. This will be a big help to the people that have asked and havn’t asked. Plus you now have a posts for reference when people asked questions in the future you can send them to you FAQ posts.

20. Share What You Would Do Different

Once you been around a while you will learn that there are many things you would have done differently. So why not share this with your readers, share things that would of made your journey easier, or share things that would of helped you see results sooner.  This will be a huge help to your readers keeping them from making the same mistakes you have.

21. Get Some Experts Together

Collaboration posts are big lately and for good reason.. people love learning from the best in a niche and learn it all in one post makes it convenient. Grab 5 – 10 experts in your field and get them all to answer or more questions, then just take it and put it all together in a post.

example for this was this post with the top 6 experts in podcasting.

22. Share Your Shine

Next time you are interviewed by someone on a blog or podcast, make sure to do a post on your blog mentioning that interview. This helps get your interview in front of more of your readers and it also gives back to the person that interviewed you with some promotion and a backlink.

23. Explain Your Design Changes

Have you updated your blogs theme or layout? This is a good time to tell your readers why you made those changes and what the results are since the changes took place. This is another great opportunity to teach your readers something new, plus make them feel like they are part of your journey.

24. Share How NOT To Do Things

The net is flooded with How To posts. But negative titled posts work just as good at getting people’s attention, so why not come up with a how NOT to do something post. Plus some people learn better when they are told point blank what they should NOT do.

example of this was my post on 6 things social media can’t do for you.

25. Share Your Life

At the end of the day, to be a successful blogger your readers will need to connect with YOU, not your brand.

Sharing some personal posts once in awhile is a great way to show you are a real person and again like I mention above, they will relate to you on a more personal level. Combine all that with great helpful content, will have you gaining and keeping your readers trust.

Those 25 ideas for blog posts should keep your blog filled with great content for months to come. You can even mix and match some of the ideas I shared above, just be creative and your readers will love you for it.

2014 will continue to be the year that content drives everything.

The trick for you is finding the content your readers want and also lets you reach the goals you have for your blog and business.
