Build That Community Now
But now that Google is ranking tweets in real time search, building a strong twitter community has never been more important.
Before you start getting ranked, make sure you get your twitter page set up right and SEO ready!
Google now puts weight into the amount of followers you have and more importantly…
the quality of those followers that will get your tweets ranked higher.
They look at it the same as sites linking together, it’s not so much about the amount but more about the quality of the site the link comes from.
Google ranks tweets by followers to an extent, but it’s not just about how many followers you get. It’s about how reputable those followers are.
Singhal likens the system to the well-known Google system of link popularity. Getting good links from reputable sources helps your content in Google, so having followers with that same kind of authority theoretically helps your tweets rank in Google’s real-time search.
“One user following another in social media is analogous to one page linking to another on the Web. Both are a form of recommendation,” Singhal says. “As high-quality pages link to another page on the Web, the quality of the linked-to page goes up. Likewise, in social media, as established users follow another user, the quality of the followed user goes up as well.”
There are many reasons that you should be focusing on growing and engaging with your twitter community, this is just another great reason.
Tweets will be ranked real time and that will have an immediate effect in your blog or business.
Twitter in real time search is changing why and how important twitter is in your business, now you have an added benefit to start engaging with your followers more.

Jeez, I have never considered Twitter in this light, it puts up a total different dimension.
I might just burn myself completely into it – after all, I want to make a splash with my blog.

Interesting post – thank you! I think a lot depends on how they determine the quality of each account too. Basing it on “human” logic, I would guess lots of original tweets (i.e. not quotes and not RT's all the time), as well as the level of interaction.

Hi Anne, and TY for the comment
Yes they go by the size of your followers and the quality of those followers and how engaging you are with your twitter followers. That's why building a strong community is very important now.

Don't you think following a ton of people like you are doing now doesn't matter much though?
You follow 40,000+ people and in turn 40,000+ people follow you. So how are you even keeping track of what your followers say? The answer is you can't, so why don't you unfollow everyone that you don't already track via something like TweetDeck anyway?

Chris TY for the comment.
I follow 46,000 and followed back about 50,000 Chris you will learn quickly that using Twitter with your 125 followrs is a waste of time. I built a strong community on Twitter with conversation, RT's Dms.
Doesn't matter how many followers you have you wont be able to keep up with them all all the time.
Twitter is a marketing tool and communication tool, if you are using it to build your blog you will need alot more then 125 followers.
If you are using it to meet new friends then 125 is fine.
If you look at my blog, comments, RTs you will see my twitter community is pretty active and engaging. Big difference then when you see others with 40,000 followers and can barely pull 5 RTs.
Like I wrote in my twitter dummy guide, it is about building a community, no matter size followers you have.

I must try harder on my Twitter account, though I can quite honestly say that since breaking the 3,000 mark in followers I have notice an increase in the amount of hits that come from Twitter to my blog, which is always a good thing, so I must be doing something right
