Learning From My SEO Mistakes

Today I want to go over some areas of an SEO audit I had done by some SEO Pro’s David Sinick &Tom Lambert from WordPress SEO Blueprint (not an affiliate link)

I asked David and Tom if they could do a full SEO audit of Money Dummy blog to see where and what I could fix to better my SEO efforts. They came thru with a full SEO audit and 40 min Skype call to walk me thru everything and answer the few questions I had… these guys were great!  It doesn’t get any better then that, smart advice with full support and communication after the fact.

Now the SEO audit was an eye opener, I realized I was doing many things right, but was also doing many things wrong.

SEO Mistakes To Avoid

SEO is the best thing you can focus on with your blog, yes some say it’s a waste of time or that the results take to long or it’s to much work…whine whine whine

Look at it like this, even if your efforts take 2-4 weeks to show up, but then they stay their for years to come..was it worth it?  Hell Yes it was!

Some of my keywords I rank for, I am beat by blog posts that are 2-4 years old. That person did some quality SEO work to get those results..a little work now, to have rankings you can enjoy for years?..Works for me!

SEO changes monthly it seems and 2011 is no different and changes come with SEO mistakes you need to avoid.

There have been some changes to the SEO world recently, some good, some not so good, Google has changed mostly for the better, and they plan to continue on this change for the long term.

Google Slapped My Blog

Today I wanted to give you all a heads up to something that happened to my blog this past week, since the new Google change took effect.

If you don’t know yet.. Google has made a direct effort to now remove all sites/blogs that have duplicate content, which in theory will help ma and you that write “real” content to rank higher.

Sounds all good, Right?

Well like many of Google’s changes lately, the good guy gets screwed a little bit too.

Today I wanted to share some basic steps to getting higher Google rankings for your blog.

Now that Twitter and Facebook fan pages are included in Google search results, I thought I would share with you a few SEO tips to get more SEO push out of your twitter and facebook pages.

These tips apply to both twitter and facebook fan pages and they are simple to do.. and we all like simple..right?  lol

Choose The Best Name and Username

Your name should include one of your keywords, or at least fit your niche. Ex: if you sell dog toys, then choose a name that fits that.

You can also add a keyword to your display name too. I don’t do this because it makes it less personal, but if SEO juice is what you want then keyword your name too.

We all want to get as much love and attention from Google, and the best way to do that is to optimize your SEO blog post pages.

To get the most from your SEO efforts on each of your blog posts, make sure you are following these simple SEO tips.

The SEO phrase is basically just the main keyword you are using for the seo blog post you are writing.

Use SEO Phrase In The Page Title

One of the most important places to put keywords is the Title. Also make sure the title is readable. That just means make sure it is readable.

Also, keeping your title tag to no more then 10 words works best.

All of the major spider-based search engines use title-tag content to determine relevancy.

Use SEO Phrase At Top, Middle, End Of Your Content

Using your keywords in your first sentence and in the middle and at the end of your content works best to get noticed by the search engines.

All of the major search engines use text-based body content to determine relevancy.

Use SEO Phrase At Least Once In Your Tags

Very few search engines use meta-tag content to determine relevancy. If you have good keyword filled content, then using your seo phrase in your tags not that important, but still helps, and I do this for all posts.

Another benefit to seo phrase in your tags is that many database-driven sites have a search function, so if visitors type in keywords into a site’s search, the results should be accurate.

Yahoo is the only major search engine currently, that uses the meta-keywords tag to determine relevancy.

Ok Now What Does All This Mean

Bottom line is to use your seo phrase in your title, use it no more then 2-3 in a small post and no more then 4-5 in a long post, and use your seo phrase in your tags at least once.

This is the best way to optimize your SEO blog and to not get the Google slap for being a keyword stuffing spammer.
