Blogging Income Lies and Truths

Is A Blogging Income Reality?

Over the past year I have seen more and more people wanting to start blogging to earn an income.

The problem is they get started thinking that making an income from blogging is easy and fast and the truth is that this is not really true.

The truth is if you can do all the things to position your blog in front of many people, then you can earn a nice income from your blog.

What are all the right things?blogging income

Write great content

Build trusting relationships with your readers

Driving traffic to your blog

Having the right products and services on your blog to make sales

Staying committed

Learning to do all that is what is hard, but once you get all that clicking together then a blogging income will come pretty fast. What I will say is you have to like blogging, you have to like all the things that go with blogging for you to succeed long term.

Blogging is a business and you need to run it like one and that takes work, so if you don’t enjoy blogging, then it will be hard to keep up the hard work.

Now that you know earning money from blogging isn’t easy…I wanted to share 10 Blogging Income Lies and Truths with you.

Lie: Starting A Blog Takes A Lot Of Money

Truth:

Starting a blog is pretty easy and cheap. You can get setup with a free blog and a $10 domain and your up and running. Now with social media, you can build a nice following of readers at no cost. Add to that Guest Posting, basic SEO, Article Marketing and those are just a few ways to drive traffic to your new blog at no cost.

The only real cost is your time.

Lie: I Need To Be On Page One Of Google

Truth:

Getting on page one of Google would make earning a blogging income that much easier, but truth is there are many bloggers that are very successful that get almost no search traffic to their blogs.

There are so many free and paid ways to drive traffic to your blog today that getting search traffic is just a nice bonus.

Also many people are fooled that getting their blog to 1st position on page one will drive HUGE traffic to their blogs, the truth is this is not the case. To enjoy big traffic from Google you need to be on page one for MANY keywords not just one.

So keep on writing great content on a regular basis and focus on driving traffic other ways, if you get on 1st page, Great,, if not.. So what!

Lie: Only Self Hosted Blogs Succeed

Truth:

Having a self hosted blog has no real bearing on your ability to earn a blogging income. I know a few bloggers that are successful that use a hosted blog.

The only things a self hosted blog can help you with are, getting faster SEO bennis and you have more control of what you put on your blog.

You can be successful with either one.

Lie: If I Want A Blogging Income, I Need To Know It All

Truth:

Every successful blogger started at the beginning.  Do you think John Chow or Darren Rowse knew everything about blogging before they started?  Of course not, hell they both continue to learn today.

I spent about 2 months just reading blogs, learning things I felt I needed before I started my blog, but I’m a little compulsive haha, I could of started sooner but I wanted to be ready.  For you, I say do some basic learning of blogging and WordPress then just get to work.

Most of what I know today came from learning something, then trying it. Have an idea, then try it.

Learn from others and take action and do your own testing.

That’s how you become successful.

Lie: I Need To Advertise To Reach A Blogging Income

Truth:

Advertising on your blog is a good way to make some money. But there are so many better ways that will make you more money long term.

With advertising, you need to have a high number of visit before anyone will bother advertising with you, and that can take months to a year to reach.

Selling your own product or service on something you REALLY know is the best way to make money fast with your blog.  All you need is a decent following or readers that trust you to start making a few sales.

Lie: I Need To Quit My Day Job

Truth:

Truth is, it would be silly to quit your day job when you are building a blogging income. Your reason for trying to make money with your blog is to have extra money.. Right?  So why leave your job that is giving you and income?

Keeping your day job as you grow your blog will let your grow your blog with less pressure to succeed. If you quit your job and wanted to make a living off your blog.. it would get very stressful, and your blog would suffer in the end.

Keep your job and spend a few free hrs a day working your blog, writing posts, building relationships, driving traffic.

If you think about it, you can find plenty of time that you can put to your blog.

For me TV was a big distraction so for the past year I have left my TV off till 4pm and that has made a big difference in my productivity.

What distracts you? Find it and remove it to free up time to work your blog.

Lie: All I Have To Do Is Build It and They Will Come

Truth:

This is a shout out to my lazy bloggers haha

I can promise you one thing.. no matter how great your blog is, how great you are or even how great your content is, you will not get any visitors to your blog if you let it just sit there!

I know that may be hard to read as awesome as you think you are :)

The truth is, there are so many great blogs out there and if you want your new blog to be seen you need to market that blog, promote that blog post.

Remember what we talked about in the intro?

Write great content

Build trusting relationships with your readers

Driving traffic to your blog

Having the right products and services on your blog to make sales

Staying committed

These are the things you need to do to get your blog visited.

So let’s say it this way…”If I Build It and Promote It, They Will Come”

Lie: I Will Succeed With One Product

Truth:

Most products have a selling life that is about 6 months to 1 year. Depending on the niche and the type of product it is.

Even if you have the best product in the best niche you are looking at maybe killing it for 2 years and hoping your millions will come from that one product.

The truth is you are better to put out 5 – 10 smaller products around one big product that way if your goal is to make $5,000 a month, it will be easier to make $500 to $1,000 per product then it would be to make the full $5,000 from one product.

This also gives you some breathing room in case one or two of your products suck, you can fall back on the other 5-10 that are doing well.

Mom was right.. “Don’t Put All Your Eggs In One Basket” :)

Lie: There Is Only One Way To Make Money

Truth:

This is probably the dumbest lie you will hear.

There are many way you can make a blogging income. You just need to find what fits you and your blog. I covered a few ways in this post 10 Effective Ways To Make Money With Your Blog

That is just 10 ways you can earn money with your blog, there are literally 100 others.

One of the best ways is to sell information, either an eBook or video course. They don’t take to long to put together and you can price them at whatever you feel is reasonable.

I will say this, some of the ways you earn money with your blog may come to you out of no where.

Example: The past 5 months I have been getting clients hiring me to be their Social Media Manager. I never planned to offer this service and I never even had it on my blog, but because of what I was doing on my blog and the social proof, they reached out to me.

So be open to what you can offer on your blog, you never know where your next product or service idea will come from.

Lie: Someone Is All Ready Doing It

Truth:

This is one lie “mentality” that makes no sense to me.

If every business in the world thought this way you would have one fast food burger place, one place to buy a car, one play to shop etc…

As far as blogging, there are many bloggers that earn a blogging income doing the same thing and there are just fine.  Competition is good, and there are so many people to reach out to one blogger could never do it all.

You don’t need every person online that is into what you do to visit your blog to be successful all you need is a small group of trusting readers/customers to earn a nice income.

As bloggers we all bring something different that the other guy can’t match,

It’s you, your personality, how you share things, how you see things.

People connect with people differently, there will always be readers that will connect with you more then the next guy.

There are more Lies out there that keep people from earning a blogging income, but I think if you can conquer these 10, you will be well on your way to having a successful blog.

What are some blogging Lies you have heard?  Share in the comments :)
