2- Your blog is a good place to let your personality shine, the more of you you show the more your readers will relate.

3- A blog is the best place to cover a topic

or niche and build a community with readers that have the same interests.

4- If you didn’t know, a blog is really the best place to promote a service or product, even more so now with all the social media traffic you can get, they will be happier going to a blog to learn more then a sales page.

5- The best part of starting a blog is It Is YOUR Blog, you can say and share whatever you want, you have the complete freedom.

14- Many bloggers have turned their blogs into published books, who knows you might end up with your own book one day.  Look at Gary V and ProBlogger.

The possibility and opportunity is there.. up to you to chase it down.

15- With your blog you will talk to people from all over the world, people you would never have met without your blog.

I have to say this has been a nice bonus to my blog, meeting people from other countries and get a peek into their lifestyle and culture.

16- Starting a blog and writing on it will help you realize just how much useful information you have on your blogs topic.  Seems the more I write the more I know.

17- Your blog is a great place to share your lessons good and bad with your readers, better more if your lessons have to do with your blogs topic.

This will be helpful to your readers and at same time help you build that all important relationship with your readers.

18- Having a blog will help you stay current with what is happening within your niche.  I have found some great articles from people that have left comments on my blog.

Awesome stuff John Paul. Really the more I read the more I’m seeing a blog as being the shop window of a business. The great thing is that it can provide a more useful resource than an FAQs page because each post can be an issue that is addressed. What’s more you can utilise your blog to build a relationship with existing and potential clients.
The only thing I could add is really that a blog is a more casual method of sharing information than a website – the power of personality relaxs everything and makes it a lot easier to read.

I enjoyed the fact that you posted more reasons than “just make money”. Thank you.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Mark, glad you like the post. I agree that a blog is more interactive then a FAQ, writing a post about each issue then letting comments be the place people come for more info is a smarter way to offer support then a FAQ.

I agree to that a blog is more of a conversation, a site or sales page is you speaking AT your reader.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Hey Chris..TY for your first comment. :)

Yea, there are more beniis to having a blog then JUST making money, even though that is a great reason for a bog too :)

    Pretty comprehensive list.

I have to agree that the more I blog the more I learn. I look back at some of my earlier post…..boy I have come a long way. In writing technique and in finding my own style.

I find it interesting that businesses still need to be convinced of the advantages of blogging. My little sister has a static site that is promoting a fabulous product. Her webmaster has convinced her to stay with a static site and not to blog.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Sheila, glad you like the list. Trust me, my early posts are pretty bad too lol But long as we keep getting better, we are good :)

Oh your sis needs to get a blog,, she can use a static and a blog, no reason to do one or the other.. do both.

    Hey John,

Everything you said here, it is so true! I meet so many great people that there is no way I would have meet if it wasn’t for my blog. You are not kidding about the more you write the better you get at spelling and grammar.

I have a question, “What is the plugin you are using for the StumbleUpon button above?” I had “Digg this button” but all of the sudden it disappear…LOL!

Maybe had something to do with the new Digg.

    Chat with you later…
    Josh

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Josh..We wouldn’t have met man without our blogs haha

My Stumble button is just code. I try to use code where I can,, less plugins the better.

I had a Digg buttton , I dumped it, because what we talk about will never get to front page… BUT now with the new Digg being like Twitter, I might put the Digg button back. They have some cool looking ones now too.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Yea,, but not the only reason.. and if thats all your chasing, you won’t be successful.. trust me chief.

    Excellent list John Paul.

I like #15. I have met more people than I can imagine from all over. This wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t run a blog. The internet is amazing and blogging adds a “1 STop Shopping” type twist for anybody who wants to find out more about you.

    Ryan Biddulph

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Glad you liked the post.. I have to say #15 is my fav too… meeting people in different cultures is pretty cool. I like that “1 stop shopping” to get to know you and what your about haha very nice.

It’s good to hear so much emphasis on having fun John.

I think we all get caught up with our blogs sometimes that we forget the passion and fun we really get to have with it – it’s a platform which we get to completely control and play around with.

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

I agree.. your blog is yours to do what you want, and fun and building friendships is the best part.

The three things that really hit home for me are showing your personality, using it as a reference for others in anything you want to do later on, and learning about others through the community you create.

I could see this post be turned into a workbook or ebook going more in-depth into each reason :D

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Thanks for the comment Derek. Yea personality is where it is all at. Best way to stand out and be remembered.

  • Annabelle Charbit

Dear John PaulI really enjoyed this article. It is certainly true that there are benefits to starting a blog. I started my blog for the sake of my sanity, as I started blogging about bad customer service and impolite social behavior that was literally driving me mad !!!I feel rather good now that I’ve let it all out. My worry now though is, what if a prospective employer Googles me and finds the blog? Will it stand against me??I dont want to take down my blog because it makes me so happy. Do you have any advice for me?ThanksAnnabelle

  • http://www.johnpaulaguiar.com John Paul

Glad you liked the post Annabelle :)

My advice to any blogger is, to be careful what you say and how you say it on your blog or social media.. if you are worried people will see what your write, the change how you write :)
